The holiday season is on its way and you’re in the mood for an adventure. The essence of escaping the crowd and doing it in style is wrapped up in these tips, to help you have the best break you’ve had in years. A bit of careful planning at the time of booking can ensure the fundamentals of your holiday run smoothly and you can relax in the knowledge that you’ll be creating happy memories.
Consider Your Options
Before you book, consider exactly what you need for everyone in your group. What will make your time that little bit special for everyone? If you want it then just ask because getting your best time away from home and generating the very best memories is definitely worth the effort.
Go Off The Beaten Track
Some of the most rural, tranquil, quiet, unique and special locations are completely off the beaten track. If you don’t take the time to truly explore then you’ll miss out on something special.
Know What You Want… And Don’t Want!
Selecting your location can be tricky, but consider carefully what you want from your holiday. If a packed location with stereos on full volume aren’t your thing then you might want to avoid heading off towards a festival, busy town location or packed campsite. Glamping can be the ideal solution with lots of space to yourselves and peace and quiet for true relaxation and reconnecting with your loved ones
It’s The Journey As Well As The Destination
Your holiday starts the minute you leave your house. Enjoy taking your time and stop along the way to explore places of interest, visit unique shops, nip into vineyards, try farm shop produce and try out picnic stops. Wherever you’re travelling from see if you can include an opportunity to stretch legs and get some fresh air before checking in as well as on your way home – that way you’ll be extending your holiday and will make the journey part of the adventure.
Travel There In Style
There’s nothing better than cruising towards your vacation in something fun while looking forward to your holiday. You can listen to your favourite music and play games along the way. Make sure everyone has their travel comforts including blankets and pillows. Or what about getting a steed that’s fabulous, such as a classic car. Do what you can to make your holiday feel that little bit special as you ride along.
Get Your Gear In Order
Think in detail about the type of gear you want to take with you. Consider different culinary creations including how you can make the most of the campfire (Round the Woods provides long skewers perfect for roasting marshmallows as well as a campfire cooking kit), gadgets to make your stay more exciting, stuff to test your map reading skills, all weather gear, shiny new wellies and anything else for family activities in the open.
Do you want your slippers, a thermos, a retro blanket, your favourite jumper or thick socks. This is the time to think of all the options before you set off. We provide all the essentials that you need including bedding, towels, woolen blankets, cooking and dining equipment, shower gel and shampoo; leaving room in your car for all the extras that will make your holiday what you need including lots of delicious food!
Vacations are not the time to cut back and not look after yourself. If you’ve wanted to try out that speciality bottle of wine or never to repeat treat, then now is the time to do it. You deserve to kick back and relax with a good book in the hammock, to sleep deeply in the sumptuous bed and to unplug from technology and enjoy each other’s company.
High-end comfort doesn’t compromise… and neither should you. If you need something to keep yourself comfortable during the day or night on your holiday then don’t be afraid to pack it. Staying warm by the woodburner or under blankets, sleeping well with goose-down pillows and duvet, or drinking well with fresh coffee made in the cafetiere makes a difference.
Remember Your Cheeky Rations
Artisan crackers, local cheeses, luxury cakes, delicious wine and rich chocolates can all make a holiday one to remember. We will point you towards all the best places to source wonderful local delights giving your insiders knowedge plus we have amazing local chocolate and ice cream in our honesty shop.
Psychology studies show that a blue and green outlook is restorative and calming, so if you want to truly rest and recharge then making your way to a forest or beach is a treat for your body and your soul. With 7 acres of woodland as well as wildlife meadow onsite you can’t go wrong at Round the Woods and don’t forget the amazing beaches Norfolk has to offer.
Create A Dreamy Space
It’s amazing what a woodburner, fairy lights, bunting, candle lights, tree swings, rugs and cosy blankets can do to make a place magical. If you have an idea then now’s the time to try it out.
There are plenty of long walks and cycle rides for the family in good weather, but what about when it turns bad? That’s when you need plenty of games and activities to keep the vibe restful. Having a treasure chest of ideas you can run to for those times in need can help avoid stressful family moments. We provide a selection of games and packs of cards but if you’ve got a firm favourite make sure you pack it. For outdoors there’s swing ball and pond dipping and nature explorer equipment all supplied.
If you are able to use a fire pit then getting the kids to gather wood and build and light a fire can keep them occupied for hours, especially as we provide the marshmallows. Maybe afterwards you can use the opportunity to tell a few campfire stories and brew some spiced cider over the warmth of the flames. Or if you’re musically inclined bring an instrument for a campfire singalong.
Don’t Cut Back On Quality
If you like a certain method of making coffee or enjoy a specialist tea, then a holiday is not the time to ignore those needs. Don’t feel bad about the extra bag you’ve had to pack or a few more trips to the shops. If it’s important to you then it’s worth doing well.
Quality Tucker For The Soul
Food is the heart of any family and this should be transferred to the holiday environment as well. This means everyone should take charge of the meals as the regular cook needs a holiday too. The menu shouldn’t be left unconsidered either.
Dining under the stars and around the campfire in the simplest of ways can also be invigorating. But if you want to go the extra mile, consider local seafood, baked breads, olive oil, wines, seasonal fruit and veg and other local artisan offerings. Cooking your food in the style of the area where you are staying is good eating, as well as inspiring gastronomy for the soul.
Not Just An Ordinary Tipple
Many of us like a tipple or two on holiday, but there’s no reason why this should be dull. Have you considered bringing your own cocktail making kit? Even the simplest combinations could be talked about for years to come and you might even be able to come up with your own cheeky cocktail combination. What about treating yourself to a local bottle of wine, gin or craft beer to sip while admiring the sunset.
Get Back To Nature
It’s good for our health, helps us re-set our sleep patterns and reduces our stress levels. What more reason do you need to go hiking, foraging, wild swimming, cycling, surfing and moving outdoors?
Enjoy Doing Sweet Nothing
Watch the birds or simply enjoy the views, as a rare few moments of doing sweet nothing is as much of a treat as an afternoon nap. This can be especially difficult if you’ve got a young family but all the more important! If your children allow it, take a few minutes to do absolutely nothing.
Study The Stars
Stargazing is such a treat when you are out in nature. Especially if it is a certain time of year when comets, shooting stars and planets are aligning. At the very least learn how to identify the North Star and lie on your back around the fire and talk about the Universe, UFO’s and count anything that moves.
