We do love Spring and Summer - it's such an exciting time to be immersed in the Norfolk countryside. Everything seems to be growing right before our eyes & the site is beautifully green.
Life on the smallholding has been busy this year so far, here's some of the exciting things that have been happening.
Our yurt meadow is enjoying all this sunshine and the long grasses are great for kids to run wild through.
In autumn we (mostly Seb) scythed, mowed and sowed an area for wildflowers leading to the campfire and we have been seeing the beginnings of what we hope will become a beautifully colourful native wildflower meadow. Yellow rattle has grown across the wildflower area and now have birdlike seedpods on them that rattle in the summer breeze.
Goosey Gander Glamping
Bertie and Myrtle, our Chinese Geese, hatched out 3 cute fluffy goslings in April & boy have they grown! It's been lovely observing the natural parental roles that they have each taken, especially as they are both new to parenting. Myrtle has a proud look about her as she keeps her brood close by and Bertie has become a super protective dad - the inquisitive chickens are regularly chased away if they get too close to his babies.
May Day was marked by the arrival of bees to our smallholding - we have 2 hives with thousands of busy bees. It really is mesmerising watching them coming and going gathering nectar and pollen. We're excited to look for different uses for the honey and wax and who knows - our guests might be sampling some yummy Round the Woods honey in the future!
Swinging from the Trees
Round the Woods glampers now have something that has been on our wish list since the beginning - a giant new tree swing to enjoy! We can't resist having a go whenever we go past it.
It was a bit of an adventure getting it all set up - more on that in a future blog...
